ඩොනල්ඩ් ට්‍රම්ප්, සදික් ඛාන්ව පතුරු ගහන්නේ මම්ඩානිට මුහුණදෙන්න බැරි නිසාද?

මේ දවස්වල ඇමැරිකාවේ ජනාධිපති ඩොනල්ඩ් ට්‍රම්ප් 'තමන්ගේ කුඹුරේ ඉන්න මුවා පන්නගන්න බැරුව අනික් උන්ගේ කුඹුරුවල ඉන්න මුවෝ පස්සේ පන්නනවා වගේ වැඩක් කරගෙන යනවා... ඒ තමයි ලංඩන් නගරාධිපති සදික් ඛාන් (Sadiq Khan) ගැන අරහෙ මෙහෙ හැම තැනම දෙස්දොවොල් දි දි යනවා.

මෙවර එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මහා මණ්ඩලය අමතන වෙලවෙත් ඩොනල්ඩ් ට්‍රම්ප් කිව්වා "ලන්ඩන් නගරයේ ඉතාම භයානක නගරාධිපතිවරයෙක් ඉන්නවා, ඔහු හරිම භයානක කෙනෙක්, ඔහු ලන්ඩන් නගරයට ශරියා නීතියත් ගෙන්න යනවා" වගේ පට්ටපල් කෙබර ඇදලා දැම්මා..

ට්‍රම්ප් ලංඩන් ආව වෙලාවෙත් අවස්ථා කිහිපයකදීම ලංඩන් නගරාධිපති සදික් ඛාන්ව (Sadiq Khan) විවේචනය කළා... ලංඩන් නගරයේ නගරාධිපතිකමට සදික් ඛාන් (Sadiq Khan) උචිත නොවන බව ඔහු කිව්වා.. ඇත්තටම ඩොනල්ඩ් ට්‍රම්ප් ලංඩන් නගරාධිපති සදික් ඛාන් ගේ පස්සේ පන්නන්නේ ඇයි?

ඒ වෙන මොකවත් නිසා නෙමේ, නිව්යෝර්ක් නුවර නගරාධිපතිවරණය ලබන නොවැම්බර් 04 වෙනිදා යෙදෙනවා. නිව්යෝර්ක් නුවර එම නගරාධිපතිවරණයට Democrat පක්ෂයෙන් උගන්ඩාවේ උපන් සොහරන් මම්ඩානි (Zohran Mamdani) තරග කරනවා. ඔහු ඉතාම ජනප්‍රිය චරිතයක් බවට පත්වී තිබෙනවා පමණක් නෙමෙයි, ඩොනල්ඩ් ට්‍රම්ප්ට දැවැන්ත අභියෝගයක් එල්ල කරමිනුත් ඉන්නවා. මෑතකදී (23/09/25) කමලා හැරිස් (Kamala Harris) පවා මම්ඩානිට (Zohran Mamdani) සහය දීමට ඉදිරිපත් වුනා. මේ වෙද්දී ට්‍රම්ප් විරෝධී ජනයා මම්ඩානි වටේ එකතුවෙමින් ඉන්නවා.

ඉතින් ජනාධිපති ඩොනල්ඩ් ට්‍රම්ප්, මම්ඩානි (Zohran Mamdani) ගේ නමක්වත් සදහන් කරන්නේ නෑ.. මොකද එකත් මම්ඩානිට වාසියක් වෙයි කියලා. ඒ වෙනුවට ට්‍රම්ප් ලංඩන් නගරාධිපති සාදික් ඛාන් (Sadiq Khan) ව පතුරු ගහනවා...

ට්‍රම්ප් එහෙන් සදික් ඛාන් ගැන විවිධ බේගල් ඇද බාද්දී නිව්යෝර්ක් නුවර නගරාධිපති අපේක්ෂක සොහරන් මම්ඩානි (Zohran Mamdani) ලංඩන් නුවර නගරාධිපති සාදික් ඛාන් (Sadiq Khan) ගේ හොද කියනවා: ලංඩන් නගරයේ අවුරුදු 16 යෙන් පහල හා අවුරුදු 60න් ඉහල සියළු දෙනාටම ප්‍රවාහනය නොමිලේ.. දුප්පතුන්ට නොමිලේ ආහාර ලබාදෙන ආහාර බැංකු (food banks) 300-350 විතර ලංඩන් නගරයේ තියෙනවා, බස් සියල්ලම වගේ පරිසර හිතකාමී යි (0% of carbon emulations), බ්‍රිතාන්‍යයේ ආර්ථිකයට ලංඩන් නගරයෙන් පමණක් 23%කට ආසන්න ආර්ථික දායකත්වයක් (£618 billion GDP) ලබා දෙනවා, ලංඩන් නගරයේ පමණක් භාෂා 300ක් කථා කරන, ජනවර්ග 287 ක් වෙසෙන බහුවාර්ගික ජනතාවක් සාමයෙන් ඉන්න තැනක්, ලංඩන් කියන්නේ සතියකට දහස් ගාණක් ශාස්ත්‍රීය, සංස්කෘතික හා ආගමීක උත්සව පවත්වන තැනක්ය..

ආදී විස්තර කියමින් ලංඩන් නගරය උදාහරණයට ගනිමින්, ජනාධිපති ට්‍රම්ප් යටතේ ඇමැරිකානු සමාජයට වෙලා තියෙන හානිය ගැන කියමින්, නිව්යෝර්ක් නුවර නගරාධිපති අපේක්ෂක සොහරන් මම්ඩානි (Zohran Mamdani) සිය මැතිවරණය මෙහෙයවනවා. ට්‍රම්ප්ට ඕක කාලා ඉන්න බෑ..

ඇත්තටම මේ මොහොතේ ඇමැරිකාවේ ජනාධිපති ඩොනල්ඩ් ට්‍රම්ප්ට ඇති ප්‍රධානතම අභියෝගය වී ඇත්තේ නිව්යෝර්ක් නුවර නගරාධිපති අපේක්ෂක සොහරන් මම්ඩානි (Zohran Mamdani). ට්‍රම්ප් ඔහු ගැන කථාකරන්නවත් කැමැති නෑ.. ඒ වෙනුවට "මුව හමට තලනවා" වගේ ලංඩන් නගරයේ නගරාධිපති සාදික් ඛාන් (Sadiq Khan) ව විවේචනය කරනවා.

මේක බ්‍රිතාන්‍යය මාධ්‍ය දකින්නේ සම්පුර්ණ විහිළු විකාරයක් (comicality) විදිහට.. කොහොම තිබුන ඇමැරිකාවක් ද අද මේ තත්ත්වය පත්වෙලා තියෙන්නේ කියලා බ්‍රිතාන්‍යය මාධ්‍යය විහිළු කරනවා...

ඕනෑ රටක හරක් ටිකක් බොරුවෙන් අන්දලා බලයට එන්නත් පුළුවන්... ආණ්ඩුකරන් යන්නත් පුළුවන්... හැබැයි රටේ තත්වය නග්ගලා ගන්න බෑ...

ලංකාවටත් වෙලා තියෙන්නේ ඕකම තමයි..

These days, it seems as though President Donald Trump of the United States is behaving like a farmer who cannot chase the deer out of his own field, but instead goes running after the deer in someone else’s.

That is exactly what he is doing with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan - attacking him everywhere he goes.

Even yesterday, while addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Trump claimed: “There is a very terrible mayor in London, a truly dreadful man, he’s even trying to bring Sharia law to the city,” - a completely baseless and inflammatory remark. On several occasions during his visits to London too, Trump has criticised Sadiq Khan, declaring him unfit to serve as Mayor of London.

But why, in truth, is Donald Trump going after Sadiq Khan so relentlessly?

It is not really about Khan at all. The real reason is the upcoming New York mayoral election, due on 4 November. Contesting from the Democratic Party is Zohran Mamdani, a Ugandan-born politician who has rapidly become both popular and a formidable challenge to Trump. Even Kamala Harris yesterday (23/09/25) publicly extended her support to Mamdani. Anti-Trump fronts are rallying strongly around him.

Trump, however, carefully avoids mentioning Mamdani’s name - knowing full well that even naming him would give his opponent greater recognition and advantage. Instead, he diverts attention by constantly targeting London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan.

As Trump hurls insults at Khan, Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for New York, points to Khan’s record in London as an example: free public transport for all under-16s and over-60s, between 300 and 350 food banks supporting the poor, a fleet of buses that are almost entirely carbon-free, London contributing nearly 23% of the UK’s economy (around £618 billion in GDP), a truly multicultural city with 287 ethnic communities speaking over 300 languages, and a place where thousands of cultural, academic, and religious events are held every week.

Mamdani contrasts this vision of London with the harm inflicted on American society under Trump’s presidency - and this is something Trump cannot stomach.

At this moment, the greatest challenge facing Donald Trump is undoubtedly Zohran Mamdani. Trump refuses even to speak his name, choosing instead to “lash out at the wrong target” by vilifying Sadiq Khan.

The British press views this as nothing short of comical - a farce, really. They mockingly ask: how on earth has America, once so powerful, come to such a state?

Of course, in any country, a group of fools may indeed be deceived by lies, enough to bring someone to power or to topple a government. But what they cannot do is uplift the state of a nation.

Sri Lanka, too, has learned that lesson the hard way.
