Two weeks ago (30/04), the Catholic priests of Negombo and the family members of the victims held a special press conference and urged the government to conduct a proper investigation on last year's (2019) Easter Sunday attacks. In that press conference, they expressed that they will launch street and roadside protest campaigns to put pressure on the government if they showed no credible investigation on the Easter Sunday Attacks.
As the victims and the Catholic Church was not satisfied with the on going lackluster investigation, I think it will be inevitable to strong protests if the Sri Lankan government continues to show no progress on the investigation. The Cardinal and the Church particularly demanded to investigate why Sri Lanka's former government authorities and the Head of the State Security officers not do anything to prevent the attack while they received enough intelligence reports on the possible ISIS attack on Sri Lankan Churches and Hotels, which was not sufficiently investigated.
Even in the last weeks, the Sri Lankan government arrested a number of Muslim youths who claimed to have associated with 'Sharan' - the main ring leader of the attack. The current investigation on the Easter Sunday attack is completely limited to hunt down 'Sharan's' ISIS connections, his networks, associates and the anybody who has contacted him.
But the government did not show any interest to investigate or take any action against the arrest of the former government authorities and the Heads of former National Security officers, who did not do a thing to abort the attack even though they have received foreign and inland intelligence reports. This has been continually scrutinised by the Sri Lankan Catholic church and they have strongly urged the government to investigate the side of involvements, too.
By the time of the attack, the former Sri Lankan President, Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, also acted as the Defence Minister and he flew to Singapore before that attack happened. Previously, the former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Secretary to the Minister of Defence in Sri Lanka, Mr. Hemasiri Fernando, confirmed that they received foreign intelligence reports prior to the attack and they acknowledged the former President Sirisena. However, the current government investigation on the Easter Sunday Attack have not been paying attention to the claims and so far they have not questioned the former President Sirisena or other officials.
The Cardinal, Malcolm Ranjith, who is also the Archbishop of Colombo, as well as a press conference, firmly demanded the investigation of the roles of the former government authorities and particularly the Heads of former National Security officers, including the former President Sirisena. Notably, the current government investigation so far did not approach to question the former Chief of State Intelligence Service, Senior Deputy Inspector-General of Police in Sri Lanka, Nilantha Jayawardena or the former Chief of National Intelligence, Sisira Mendis. It is clear that any credible investigation on the Easter Sunday Attack cannot be completed without questioning and investigating the Political and Security officers who did not act on the information that they received prior to the attack.
The former Prime Minister, Ranil Wickramasinghe, denied any knowledge of the pre-warning of the attack. There were political split between former President Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe. As a result of that, the President kept Prime Minister Ranil away from Security matters and stopped inviting Prime Minister Ranil to the country's Security council meetings since October 2018. However, the former Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe's lack of involvement to bring justice to the victims of Easter Sunday Attack is deprecated, too.
In this context of the current Sri Lankan government's investigation on the Easter Sunday Attack, it shows the lack of attentiveness to investigate the former government authorities and the Head of State Security officers, but is only keen to investigate ISIS links and associated Muslim youths. It arises to a big question of whether these investigations are politically motivated ones or not?
It is also reasonable to question that arresting only Muslim youths, and not even questioning the former government authorities and officers, is an action to maintain anti-Muslim hatred, Islamophobia and racism? If this government's investigation is proceeded on this basis, it will serve to keep the current government's loyal block of voters or voter banks, but not for the justice of the victims of the Easter Sunday Attack.

පසුගියදා (30/04) මීගමුවේ කතෝලික පියතුමන්ලා පාස්කු ප්‍රහාරයෙන් විපතටපත් පවුල්වල අයගේ සහභාගීත්වයද ඇතිව විශේෂ පුවත්පත් සාකච්ඡාවක් පැවැත්වුවා. එහිදී දක්වපු දෙයක් තමයි ආණ්ඩුව තවදුරටත් පාස්කු ප්‍රහාරයට සම්බන්ද, එමෙන්ම එය දැන දැනත් වැලැක්වීමට කටයුතු නොකළ සියළු පාර්ශව නීතිය ඉදිරියට පැමිණවීමට කටයුතු නොකළහොත් ඔවුන් ජනතාවත් සමග පාරට බහින බව.
පැහැදිලිවම එය කලයුත්තක්. රජය දිගින් දිගටම කල්මරමින් විපතට පත්වුවන්ට යුක්තිය සහ සාධාරණය ඉටුකරන්නේ නැතිනම් මිනිස්සුන්ට උද්ගෝෂන ක්‍රියාමාර්ගවලට විතරක් නෙමේ ඊටත් එහාට ගමන් කරන්න වෙනවා...
දැන් මම දැක්කා ආණ්ඩුව අදත් කවුද මුස්ලිම් තරුණයෝ දෙදෙනෙක්ව අත්අඩංගුවට අරන් සහරාන්ගේ පන්ති තියන්න උදව්කලා කියලා. ඇත්තටම ආණ්ඩුව මේ කරමින් සිටින්නේ සහරාන්ලා එක්ක ගෑවුණු උන් සොයන එකයි. ආණ්ඩුව නොකරන දේ තමයි තොරතුරු දැන දැනත් ඒ ප්‍රහාරය වැලක්වීමට කටයුතු නොකළ හිටපු ආණ්ඩුවේ ආරක්ෂක ඇමතිවරයා වූ හිටපු ජනාධිපති මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන, අගමැති රනිල් මෙන්ම පොලිසියේ, ආරක්ෂා අංශයේ ප්‍රධානීන්ව අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීමට කිසිදු පරීක්ෂණයක් හෝ ක්‍රියා මාර්ගයක් නොගැනීම...
කෝ අර හිටපු රාජ්‍ය බුද්ධි සේවාවේ ප‍්‍රධානි නිලන්ත ජයවර්ධන..,ජාතික බුද්ධි ප‍්‍රධානි සිසිර මෙන්ඩිස්? ඒ අය රටේ නැතිව වත්ද? ඒ අය ගැන පරීක්ෂණයක් නැද්ද? තොරතුරු දැන දැනත් කිසිවක් නොකලේ ඇයි කියන එක ගැන සෙවිල්ලක් නැද්ද? ඒ අයට රණවිරු ලේබලය යටතේ පරීක්ෂණවලට ලක්නොවී සිටීමේ මුක්තියක්වත් හිමිවෙලාද? අඩුම තරමේ ඒ තොරතුරැ කාදිනල්තුමාටවත් දැනුම් දීලා පාස්කු ඉරුදින පුජාවත් නවත්වන්න යමක් කලාද? එහෙමවත් සිය වගකීම ඉටු නොකරපු මේ නිලධාරීන් ගැන කිසිම පරීක්ෂණයක් නොකරන්නේ ඇයි?
එතකොට අර හිටපු පොලිස්පති පුජිත ජයසුන්දර, ආරක්ෂක ලේකම් හේමසිරි ප්‍රනාන්දු, දැන් එය ගැන පරීක්ෂණ ඉවරද? සිරිසේන රාජපක්ෂලා ආරක්ෂා කල නිසා දැන් රාජපක්ෂලා සිරිසේනව ආරක්ෂා කරනවාද? සිරිසේන ජනාධිපතිවරයා හිටපු අගමැති රනිල්ව ආරක්ෂක මණ්ඩලයේ රැස්වීම්වලට කැදෙව්වේ නැහැ කියලා එයාට වගකීමෙන් නිදහස් වෙන්න පුළුවන්ද? අඩුම තරමේ විපතට පත්වූවන් වෙනුවෙන් යුක්තිය ඉටුකරදීමටවත් උන්නදුවක්වත් ඔහුට නැද්ද? සජිත් ප්‍රේමදාසවත් ඒ සදහා කටයුතු නොකරන්නේ ඔහු මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන සමග ඇති හිතවත්කම නිසාද?
මේ ප්‍රශ්න දැන් අපි පැහැදිලිව, වඩා වඩාත් තීරණාත්මක ලෙස මතුකල යුතුව තිබෙන්නේ ආණ්ඩුව ඒවා ගැන කිසිදු පරීක්ෂණයක් නොකර, ඔවුන්ව ආරක්ෂා කරමින් සිටින නිසයි. ආණ්ඩුව පාස්කු ප්‍රහාරය ගැන පරීක්ෂණ කියලා කරමින් ඉන්නේ සහරාන්ලා එක්ක කොහෙන් හෝ ගෑවුන එවුන් ගැන විතරක් හොයන එකයි ඔවුන්ව අත්අඩංගුවට ගන්න එකයි. එහි අරමුණ පාස්කු ප්‍රහාරයෙන් විපතට පත් ජනයාට යුක්තිය ඉටුකිරීම නෙමේයි. මුස්ලිම් විරෝධය පවත්වාගෙන යෑමයි. ජාතිවාදය නඩත්තු කිරීමයි. එමගින් සිය ජන්ද පදනම ආරක්ෂා කරගැනීම තමයි. පාස්කු ප්‍රහාරය සම්බන්දයෙන් මේ ආණ්ඩුවේ දැන් වැඩපිළිවෙල.
